Jasper County REMC was formed by a group of dedicated county residents who needed and wanted electricity for their homes, farms and other businesses. Investor owned utilities said it wasn't profitable to provide service to sparsely populated rural areas so our local pioneers banded together to bring power to the rural people of Jasper County.
Following the creation of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Rural Electrification Administration (REA), Jasper County REMC was incorporated in March of 1938.
Our first pole was set in May of 1939 and our cooperative was energized July 20, 1939 with 136 member/owners enjoying the many benefits of electric power.
Since our inception, Jasper County REMC has been an integral part of the local economy and welfare of our communities through our commitment to volunteer efforts, safety presentations and through our support of local organizations and activities.
