Kankakee Valley
Building Trades Program
Jasper County REMC has provided support to the Kankakee Valley (KV) Building Trades Program for over 12 years. This program has proven itself to:
- Educate students who get jobs building homes on our lines,
- Teach students how to build an energy efficient home,
- Encourage students in our community to pursue careers in trades industry,
- Support students who may be sons/daughters of our members,
- Support students who might be REMC members someday.
The KV Building Trades Program has to meet a few requirements to receive our support. These requirements include;
- House has to be built on our lines,
- House has to have geothermal heating and cooling,
- House has to use an electric water heater,
- House should have all Energy Star® appliances,
- House has to be built with current energy efficient building science techniques,
- Prefer the house to be all electric.
The program starts in the student’s junior year of high school. If the student does well during the junior year courses, they are chosen to participate in the building of the house during their senior year. |
