Capital Credits
As a member of our Corporation, you have certain rights and privileges that you will not find in other types of electric utility companies.
One of these privileges is "Capital Credits." As a member/owner, through your patronage you furnish capital for the cooperative. All patronage capital received in excess of operating costs and expenses is allocated to you in the form of capital credits. It’s important to realize that capital is the infrastructure of our Company; it is not cash in our bank account. If you received a letter saying you have $50 of capital credits this year, that $50 may have paid for part of a transformer or utility pole.
Capital credits are retired upon the approval of the Board of Directors depending on the financial condition of the cooperative. The most recent return of capital credits was in 1999.
If you ever move away from our system, contact us with your current address in the event we retire capital.
Call us for the form to fill out in the event a member is deceased and has heirs. The heirs are eligible to receive the member's capital credits if they complete the agent’s appointment form and return it to us. |
