Non-Pay Disconnects

The REMC will not disconnect service unless it is done between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., prevailing local time, unless it is at the member's request; a hazardous condition exists, an order of the court, fraudulent or unauthorized use is detected or the REMC equipment has been tampered with and the REMC has reasonable grounds to believe that the affected member is responsible for the fraudulent use or tampering with the equipment.

The REMC will not disconnect service for non-payment beyond 12:00 noon Central Time of the day immediately preceding any day on which the REMC is not open.

Before service can be disconnected for nonpayment, the member will receive a notice that will give the date of the proposed disconnection, which will be at least fourteen (14) days after the due date. The notice will have information regarding the disconnection. When the REMC's employee arrives at the premises, the employee will have information in his possession to explain the reason for disconnection.

A notice will be given to the member or left on the premises in the event the member is not at home stating that service has been disconnected.  The notice will have the address, amount due and telephone number of the REMC where the member may arrange to have service reconnected. Our field employees will not collect payments in the field under any circumstances. A Trip Charge will be applied to the amount due.

If the residence has a remote service collar on the meter, a notice of disconnection will not be left on the premises since the meter is controlled from the REMC headquarters.

Trip Charge
A trip charge of $50.00 will be made, in addition to rates for service, when it is necessary for an employee of the cooperative to go to a member’s premises to disconnect service due to non-payment. A reconnect trip charge of $50.00 may also be incurred.
